PTS (Penilaian Tengah Semester) atau yang dulu disebut sebagai UTS (Ujian Tengah Semester) merupakan kegiatan penilaian yang dilakukan setelah berjalannya kegiatan belajar mengajar berjalan selama 8 atau 9 Minggu. 
Ujian tengah semester juga menjadi kesempatan untuk para peserta didik dalam mengasah kemampuan mereka sebelum menghadapi ujian akhir semester 1. 
Merujuk pada kalender pendidikan nasional tahun ajaran 2021/2022, UTS/PTS Semester 1 akan dilaksanakan pada bulan September tahun ini. Namun meskipun demikian, kegiatan ini dapat disesuaikan dengan program/kebijakan sekolah yang bersangkutan atau dinas pendidikan setempat.
Dilaksanakannya UTS/PTS SMA ini bertujuan untuk menguji kemampuan peserta didik/siswa yang sebelumnya telah mendapatkan pembelajaran di awal semester 1. Masing-masing sekolah SMA biasanya mempunyai komposisi penilaian nilai UTS yang berbeda. 
Pelajar yang nantinya mendapatkan nilai UTS/PTS sesuai standar KKM/KBM yang sudah disepakati oleh waka kurikulum dan juga dewan guru maka dapat dipastikan bahwa Pelajar tersebut sudah memahami materi yang disampaikan oleh Bapak/Ibu Guru. 
Akan tetapi, jika siswa mendapatkan nilai kurang dari KKM guru, peserta didik dapat melakukan perbaikan soal dan melaksanakan program remedial. Akan tetapi di beberapa sekolah program Remedial ini ditiadakan karena waktunya yang dianggap mepet dengan Ujian Akhir Semester (UAS). 
Sehingga daripada melaksanakan program remedial, biasanya sekolah akan lebih mengutamakan para Siswanya untuk segera bersiap menghadapi UAS.
